I’ve been with Enterprise Rent-A-Car for just over three years, starting as a Management Trainee in Wakefield. Achieving exceptional customer service and high sales figures, I was made eligible to move to our Leeds Bradford Airport location. I then transitioned into Business Management at the North East regional office and have now been promoted to Accounting Supervisor for the North West Region.
So as you can see, the last three years have been eventful and I’ve obtained lots of exposure to the different business streams within Enterprise. This was one of the main reasons which attracted me to the company as I knew that I was in control of my career. I just had to work hard and show my dedication to the bigger picture and I would be supported to reach my full potential.
My motto throughout my personal life and career has always been “Yes I am a woman…and what?” “Yes, I am Sikh…and what?” and “Yes I am Punjabi…and what”. Enterprise has continued this for me as nothing has ever stepped in my way or stopped me from getting where I want to be – it’s just been encouraged. Relocating out of my family home is traditionally not accepted in my culture. I was naturally worried about breaking the news to my family as I knew they would be over the moon with the promotion – I just didn’t know how they would react to the relocation. My Financial Controller at the time really wanted to understand my values as a Sikh Woman and through having regular one to ones with me he encouraged me to speak freely to my parents about the move. I could see his belief in me and the fact that he did really want me to succeed. Seeing that belief in me from someone I look up to really boosted my confidence and helped me break the news to my parents. I couldn’t be more blessed at the fact that my parents have been (and continue to be) supportive over my career choices.
The main reason for this support from my family comes from the traditional values of Enterprise Rent-A-Car; due to it being a family-owned company those values are instilled in all those that work here. I have had my team over to my family house to meet the Manku’s which has helped increase conversations over my career and break down barriers which I may have thought were there.
One of my many dream goals is to win the Asian Women Awards. I am 110% sure that I will get there with the backing and drive from my management team and my own hard work. The opportunities here are endless and the options available to me keep growing as Enterprise grows. I am on the right track for my career – and I just want to keep going.
