What I’ve Learnt About Workplace Culture

When I joined Enterprise Mobility, I quickly realised that the workplace culture wasn’t just written in policies or mission statements, it was you could genuinely feel. It lived in the way my teammates worked together, how they communicated, and how they supported each other day to day.

Over time, I’ve come to understand that thriving in a new environment takes more than just doing your job well. It’s about picking up on the little things, the everyday cues that shape how teams operate and how people build meaningful connections.

Start by Observing
One of the most valuable things I did early on was simply to watch and listen. I paid attention to how team members interacted, how meetings flowed, and how decisions were made. That’s when I started to pick up on the unwritten rules, the things that you wont find in a handbook but that does shape how a team works. 

Communication Says a Lot
As I settled in, I noticed how people communicated. Was feedback straight to the point or more subtle? Did teams chat openly or stick to formal channels? These patterns told me a lot about what the organisation values and helped me figure out how to contribute in a way that felt both authentic and aligned.

Adapting Builds Trust
Adapting to the culture doesn’t mean changing who I am, it means showing respect for how things are done here. Whether it’s tweaking how I communicate or learning how decisions get made, those small shifts have helped me build trust and work better with my team.

Relationships Matter More Than You Think
One of the most rewarding parts of my journey has been getting to know my colleagues beyond the day-to-day tasks. Building those relationships has made it easier to share ideas, support each other, and feel like I truly belong. It’s made all the difference.

Workplace culture isn’t something you figure out overnight. It’s something you learn, shape, and grow with. By staying curious, communicating thoughtfully, and building strong relationships, I’ve found my place, and learned how to thrive.
