At Enterprise Mobility, opportunity is more than a concept – it’s a journey we empower you to take. In this blog series, we’re spotlighting the journeys of inspiring women who have grown their careers from the ground up. Today, we meet Claire, who started as a Graduate Management Trainee and progressed through successive internal promotions to Group Rental Manager – a position that reflects not only her leadership, but also her dedication, work ethic and passion for developing others.
Claire made a bold move to leave Ireland to move to the UK, leaving behind familiarity in search of opportunity. With little knowledge of Enterprise Mobility at the start, she was drawn to the idea that her career would be in her own hands. Thirteen years later, her journey reflects the power of taking a chance and making it count.
What are some of the key skills you gained as a Graduate Management Trainee that set you up for future success?
From day one at Enterprise Mobility, you’re empowered to run your own business. It starts with mastering the fundamentals, but over the course of twelve months, your skills and responsibilities grow significantly. One of the most valuable lessons is in customer service, learning how to connect with a diverse range of people, understand their needs and communicate effectively. You’ll gain hands-on experience in everything from generating new corporate customers to strengthening relationships with existing, to reading profit and loss statements and managing revenue while controlling costs. The level of responsibility you’re given makes a real impact and it’s what makes the experience so rewarding.
Were there any specific mentors or role models within the organisation who helped guide your career? What did you learn from them?
I’ve been fortunate to have several mentors throughout my career at Enterprise Mobility, but the one who stands out is my General Manager who has supported me from the very beginning. Their guidance has been so important in my growth, and I truly believe the strong support network around me is a key reason I’m in the position I am today. There’s always someone I can turn to when I face challenges, and maintaining those relationships has been essential to my development and confidence as a leader.
How does the organisation foster an inclusive and supportive work environment for others in leadership positions?
My personal journey is a testament to this. As a female Group Rental Manager with a two-year-old, I had to navigate through maternity leave and return to a role where I continued to thrive. The organisation’s support, especially that of my line manager, was so important. His understanding, communication and guidance helped me strike a healthy work/life balance.
I feel empowered to be fully present at both work and home which has been key to my success. Beyond my day-to-day, I lead a focus group in the Northwest of England, driving initiatives to promote team members into leadership roles and ensuring everyone feels comfortable and supported. It’s been a huge success.
What advice would you give to those looking to make similar advancements in Enterprise Mobility?
The sky is the limit. If you want it, it’s there for the taking. My biggest advice for anyone looking to advance themselves in Enterprise Mobility is to believe in yourself and build a strong support network. Surround yourself with people who challenge and uplift you. Be open to learning, take feedback seriously and never stop growing. Success isn’t just about visibility; it’s also about performance. The PIE model (performance, image and exposure) comes to mind. You can’t build a strong image or gain exposure without delivering results first.
What are some bits of advice you would give to someone starting as a Graduate Management Trainee?
One of the best things you can do early on is organise plenty of mentor meetings. Learning from others who have been through the journey can give you a big head start. Don’t be afraid to reach out – people are usually more than happy to share their experiences and advice.
Work with lots of different people and across multiple branches. Each team will teach you something new and the variety helps you develop as a person. If you get the opportunity – try to work in an airport branch. It’s fast-paced, high-volume and full of learning opportunities.
Finally, always ask for feedback and make sure you act on it. When you’re ready, ask for more responsibility.
Finally, if you could describe Enterprise Mobility in three words, what would they be and why?
Progressive, people and opportunity.
